EDUCATION

Maram Foundation, EDUCATION GUIDE.

What is EDUCATION?

MF education program is driven by our fundamental belief in the power of education as the ultimate pathway to a better and brighter future for Syrian children. As such education initiatives seek to overcome the obstacles to education and ensure both IDP and Host-community children have equitable and safe access to comprehensive, and quality education within a protective and enabling environment.

1

Why EDUCATION?

It is vital that all children regardless of socio-economic status and particularly out-of-school children have equitable access to learning opportunities. As such, MF educational programs offer support and are designed to be flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of children and youth. A prominent feature of education activities includes catch-up classes during the summer and winter breaks, remedial education and back-to-learning advocacy campaigns.

EDUCATION MISSION

The main goal of our education program is to ensure that crisis-affected children and youth have access to quality education in a nurturing learning environment that supports and encourages individual growth and the development of vital skills and values.

Our initiatives, to deliver formal or non-formal education programs, take a full approach to education; integrating protection, education, and recreation in a way that caters to the diverse needs of children and youth.

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE

During times of war education systems, children and youth, are often on the frontline of violence and yet education is one of the most powerful tools available to societies in the world. Education is central to the social, economic and political development of every country.

Prior to the conflict outbreak in Syria, school enrolment was high and “primary grade enrolment was described as almost universal” (WOS, 2018). However, the first five years of the conflict saw the internal displacement of more than 2.8 million children.

The consequences for children and youth drop out of school was severe, with an estimated one in three of all Syrian children – up to 1.7 million children – drop out of school.

For more than five years, the Al-Hikmah School has been dedicated to providing accessible, quality elementary education to primary school-aged children living in and around the camps.

Our education program has expanded in scale and reach, including the establishment of schools in Al Madiq Castle and education-based activities across Syria and Turkey.
