Life After the Earthquake: A Tale of Resilience and Support
“Our lives after the earthquake are a tragedy. There is no peace of mind, no stability, and life is not the same as it was before.”. In these words, ” Alaaddin,” one of the beneficiaries of the cash assistance project, expressed his ordeal after the earthquake that struck Turkey on February 6, 2023. “Alaaddin” is one of the earthquake survivors who used to work in the installation of surveillance cameras and internet services before the earthquake, but had to change his profession to construction daily worker afterwards.
He narrates the differences in his life and its challenges before and after the earthquake. ” The house rent was around 500 Turkish lira before the earthquake, but it exceeded 4,000 liras afterward, causing an imbalance between income and expenses, especially for lives in a rural area where the families working in agriculture just for three months.
A Story of Hope and Rebuilding After the Earthquake
While browsing Facebook, ” Alaaddin ” saw an advertisement for a cash assistance project for earthquake victims. He and his brother registered, and the Maram team reached out to provide them with the specified cash assistance.
“Thank to Allah, the amount helped us secure rent for two months. I thank Maram’s team and the donors for the efforts they made”. Alaaddin wished for a peaceful life and a bright future for his children, and he wished to return to his city of Binnish in Idlib, which lacks security due to its proximity to government-controlled areas.
It’s worth noting that Maram assisted nearly 1,000 people in the direct cash support project, which targeted earthquake survivors in the provinces of Karaman Marash, Hatay, Gaziantep, and Şanlıurfa. A total of 13,000 Turkish lira was provided as assistance to the affected individuals in two phases.
Maram’s work to help earthquake victims is essential. It is providing much-needed relief to people who have lost everything.
