Formed in October 2012 by Syrian-American activists in response to the overwhelming humanitarian crisis facing the Syrian people, The Maram Foundation strives to provide humanitarian relief to those most in need – the refugees and IDPs.
The Maram Foundation is a registered non-profit organization, with 501(c)(3) status filed and pending. Our initial Board Members are Yakzan Shishakly, Rama Barazi and Omar Shishakly.
Our First Initiative
The foundation’s first initiative is the challenging “Olive Tree” refugee camp. The camp is located in Atmeh on the Syrian side of the Turkish border where thousands of refugees were sleeping under the Idleb sky, without shelter. Immediately tents were purchased and the camp was setup – now it is a temporary tent city of over 18,000 people.
The goal is to broaden the foundation’s efforts to support those in need beyond Syria.
